An Author's World: First poetry writing

So for An Author's World this week, I wanted to delve into the poetic side of creative writing.  It's an area that a haven't touched for a long time, but for some reason as of late, I have wanted to try writing it a bit more.  I can appreciate poetry, and I applaud those that are genuine poets themselves, because it's not as easy as people might think it is.

After a quick Google search of, "Poetry Types", I found myself flabbergasted at the amount of types, formal and informal.  Each creating a different style.  A different voice, and yet each representing poetry.  I really had no idea where to start.  I looked at many different ones, and eventually had half a dozen other Google searches open for things like, "Stanza", "Quatrain" and other equally quirky sounding words.

In the end, I didn't pick one.  Instead I decided to just wing it for the first few tries.  I wanted to get in touch with the inner poet within before I decided to get really technical about it.

I feel like a similar approach is taken when I do story writing.  Sometimes I just don't have the writing spirit within, and it takes some free writing to get in a groove.  I figure the same is probably true for me and poetry.

Nonetheless, I hope you enjoy my couple of attempts and I'd appreciate any feedback you all have in the comments below.  Thanks!

Mending my broken flow

My winding, ebbing flow
It has its highs and its lows

Some curves it strains without reason
But I endure, I endure till I find my Eden

Overtime it matures widening and growing
Sometimes it narrows without me even knowing

Wild unforgiving rapids may abound
Eventually my flow is like a smooth calm sound

Time comes and fixes my broken flow
What happens when time is not enough though?

Just a cog

I am just a cog
In a plan I cannot see
The plan is not mine own; it's unknown to me
Its truth is right and pure
That much I'm sure
